Ensemble Theatre Company presents
A Live String Quartet Performance and Discussion

In conjunction with its production of Opus, Ensemble Theatre Company will present a special benefit live performance and discussion, Opus: Behind the Music. Join fellow theatre and music enthusiasts for a riveting discussion and live music by the Denali Quartet. This insider’s view of what really goes on behind-the-scenes in a string ensemble will be presented at the Alhecama Theatre on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 5pm. Scott Reed, President of the Music Academy of the West, will moderate the discussion.

This benefit event will blend two important performance art forms, music and theater, and will offer an opportunity to hear directly from musicians and actors about the merging of their personal and professional lives. Denali Quartet members Joel Pargman and Timothy Loo are artists-in-residence of Santa Monica's critically acclaimed Jacaranda concert series, hailed by the late Alan Rich of the LA Weekly as "the right music in the right place at the right time." Joining them will be guest musicians Alyssa Park and Luke Maurer.

Opus, by violist-turned-playwright Michael Hollinger, runs February 3 through 27, 2011. Bach, Beethoven, and Bartok underscore a behind-the-music story about the passionate entanglements of a world-renowned string quartet, whose volatile founder is fired on the eve of their most important concert to date – a televised performance at the White House.  When a young female prodigy is hired to replace him, tempers flare and personalities clash as they struggle to maintain their personal and professional relationships, as well as their artistic vitality and relevance.

Admission to Opus: Behind the Music is $40.00 for the program and $100.00 for VIP tickets, which include a reception at the Wine Cask following the event.
