Ensemble's Storybook Theatre presents an Original Look at the Classic Fairytale The Little Mermaid.

(Santa Barbara) On March 10th and 17th for two consecutive Saturdays at 12:00PM (noon) Ensemble's Storybook Theatre will present the second production in its children's season with The Little Mermaid. Adapted from the classic fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, playwright Sandra Fenichel Asher has fashioned a richly entertaining children's play. Storybook director Miller James has added original songs to create a wonderful and fun filled show for the whole family.

Ensemble's Storybook Theatre has moved its public performances to the historic Santa Barbara High School campus at 700 East Anapamu Street. "We are very excited about moving the Saturday public performances to the high school" says Miller James, "it's a much bigger venue, in the past we sold out weeks in advance."

This production of The Little Mermaid takes the audience on an undersea adventure where they meet the charming young mermaid Pearl, who longs to be part of the human world. Determined to meet her dream prince, she impulsively strikes a bargain with a crafty seawitch, to trade her fins for a pair of legs and a chance to land her handsome human prince. Bursting with enchanting songs and colorful costumes this promises to be an endearing theatrical experience for children and parents alike.

With the belief that children's lives are transformed through theatre, Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara brings a unique vision to the performance of informative, entertaining and original childern's plays. ETC believes that the theatre inspires young people to develop the tools of communication and creativity that engender a deep appreciation of the world.

Ensemble's Storybook Theatre serves over 12,000 elementary students each year, combining pre-production study guides, workshops and post performance discussion of the plays with full production values--sets, costumes and music. Storybook on Tour offers opportunities for schools in north and south Santa Barbara County to have these performances at their schools. Schools can get information by calling (805) 452-4329.
