Ensemble Theatre Company Opens its Season with
A Comic Mystery, Underneath the Lintel.

Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara opens its 2011-12 season with a dazzling   multi-media production of the hit off-Broadway show, Underneath the Lintel, by Glen Berger. A one-man mystery that transcends the ages, this play “makes The Da Vinci Code seem like a game of hide-and-seek,” says Variety. Ensemble Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director, Jonathan Fox, will direct Tim Bagley, acclaimed for his extensive television comedy work and his recurring role on “Will and Grace.” Underneath the Lintel begins performances at the Alhecama Theatre on October 13 and runs through October 30, 2011. Opening night is Saturday, October 15, 2011.

Time Out New York hailed Underneath The Lintel as one of the “Top Ten Plays of the Year (2001).” And the Los Angeles Times stated, “It's a satisfying mix of intelligent writing and quirky humor.”

An uptight, meticulous librarian sets out to find the culprit who returns a book 113 years overdue.A clue scribbled in the margin of the book sets him on a journey around the globe and through the ages. As the Librarian travels and the mystery unravels, he comes to terms with a world much larger than he ever expected.

“I’ve been wanting to present this play for a very long time,” said Mr. Fox. “It’s so beautifully written and engaging, and deals with questions of the meaning of life that we all grapple with. I am delighted that we have an actor, Tim Bagley, who can truly bring it to life.”

Ensemble’s production of Underneath The Lintel will incorporate the latest technology in digital video projection, sound design, lighting design and photography to create a universe that spans over two thousand years, and travels through Germany, Australia, America and China, as the protagonist attempts to unlock this puzzling ancient mystery.

This ingenious, quirky adventure will star award-winning actor/comedian Tim Bagley who began his career writing and performing with LA’s famed Groundlings comedy troupe. He just recently completed working on Judd Apatow’s feature film, Life at 40. In addition to writing and starring in his one-person play, Happy Hour, which won the Aspen Comedy Arts Festival Jury Award for Best One-Person Show, he has performed at the Geffen Playhouse in Joel Grey’s production of The Normal Heart. Mr. Bagley is perhaps best known for his work as Harold Krenshaw on “Monk” and Larry on “Will and Grace.” He has appeared in over thirty-five recurring television series. Highlights include “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Shameless,” “Love Bites,” “Southland,” “Web Therapy,” “Grimm,”  “S#*! My Dad Says,” “Seinfeld,” and “Hot In Cleveland.”  Movie highlights include The Space Between, Project Endgame, Finding Bliss, Knocked Up, Employee of the Month, and The Day After Tomorrow.
